About a Girl

lyrics

I grew up fast and lean and weak,
Sorrow was my kin.
The trophies I've collected
Are the scars along my skin.

But I wouldn't trade them for gold;
Oh, the stories they've told.

Florecent lights and clinic signs,
Oh, childhood.
A toy to my left, a needle at right,
They'd done the best they could.

I've grown up awful tough,
Still, it wasn't enough.

I'm a tragedy. X2

The pain burns like fire,
No spark required,
I'm alive but I'm not well.

And the poison and knives,
Have taken their time,
As far as I can tell.

I've battled on hands and knees;
Still the cells do as they please.

There isn't much mirth,
But for what it's worth,
I love the life I lead.

After all, how can we heal,
If we never bleed.

I'm broken, but I feel fine;
This body is sick, but it's mine.
